Press Release

8 Oct 2014 by Manunda Hawks

The MHAFC committee have voted with an overwhelming majority not to follow the option of Supreme Court proceedings against AFL Cairns, with regards to the unjust and harsh decision handed down to the club by the AFL Cairns board for the abandonment of the fixture against the Port Douglas Football Club on 2-8-14, and the subsequent suspension for the 2015 season of Senior & Reserve grade teams.
To our players, supporters, members, and sponsors, we advise that this decision was considered in great depth, and at all times placing the best interests of our club foremost.
The advice from our legal representatives was that there was a realistic chance of having the decision overturned by the judicial system, however, there was an accompanying uncertainty regarding the time and costs involved, as well as the possibility of future actions by the league.
The committee vehemently disagrees with the decision handed down by the AFL Cairns executive, but has not lost sight of the fact that we still have a club, that being the Manunda Hawks AFC.
The money spent on legal action will be more beneficial being spent on developing our juniors, as well as preparing our club for a strong re-entry to the senior competition in 2016.
We, as a committee, have set our sights on supporting the women’s team, the colts and juniors for the 2015 season.
With this decision now made, and the direction of the club announced, we take this opportunity to thank all of those that have supported our cause over the past few months, and I would like to ask that you continue to support the club through the 2015 season as we prepare to consolidate for the 2016 season.
Finally to our players, we will support your decision as to which direction you decide to go in 2015, whether it be to rival codes or clubs. However, I would like to welcome you back to our club, and for you to always remember that you will be a part of the Manunda Hawks.
Regards,
Richard Martin
President
