Cameron Campbell, South Cairns: “I had it (the captaincy) before I left (to play in Canberra for three seasons), so I’m pretty stoked to get it back.”

“The boys were happy to get some wins in the Preseason Cup but it’s a long year; preseason doesn’t mean much when everyone has players out.”

Coach: Dan Lock. Last season: 4th, (7-11)

Fred Pittorino, Manunda Hawks: “We’ve probably lost more than we’ve gained and we might not be as strong personnel-wise but our structures and game plan hopefully means we will be a stronger side.”

“Things are now in place for us to really start building again.”

Coach: Brad Sinclair. Last season: 5th, (5-13).

Kane Richter, North Cairns: “Our coach is high quality, his experience and knowledge is fantastic. You have to move on (from the grand final loss) otherwise you can worry about so many things. This season we have gotta time our run (better).”

Coach: Rod O’Riley. Last season: Minor premiers (16-2), lost grand final.

Michael Paul, Cairns City Lions: (Moving from Glenorchy, Tasmania) “It’s a lot higher standard than I thought, quite a professional and well run system.”

“I’m hoping to assert myself in a new comp and I think we’ll be improved in better weather with our good skills and size.”

Coach: Marc Harbrow. Last season: 7th, (2-16).

Craig Ferrier, Cairns Saints: “We are the hunted, again, which is good.”

“Yeah, we still talk about it (winning last season’s premiership) and the old boys in the club and even Kane (Richter) kind of said “too good”; It’s a good feeling to hear that.”

“Everyone’s even now, though.”

Coach: Nick Braybon. Last season: 2nd, (15-3), won grand final.

Clint Guy, Centrals Trinity Bulldogs: “Steak’s (coach Peter Seymour) brought a lot of new players in, changed the club’s culture and atmosphere so it should be a good season.”

“We don’t want to lose at home, so that’s our target but focus on the first few games.”

Coach: Peter Seymour. Last season: 6th, (5-13).

Adam Boone, Port Douglas Crocs: “We’ve got about five guys that have been up here same time as myself (third campaign) and hung around to form a good core of the side.”

“We are happy with the quality of the guys coming in and fingers crossed for finals again; once you are there you make your own destiny.”

Coach: Brad Cooper. Last season: 3rd, (13-5)
